RICE VARIETIES

BASMATI RICE

Long, slender aromatic grain with light nutty flavor that is lighter and fluffier than standard white rice. Originally from India, used in Middle Eastern cuisine.

Brown Calrose Rice

Nutty flavored, as nutritious as regular brown rice, but slightly smaller grain. Used as substitute for Calrose rice in sushi dishes. Primarily grown in CA.

Brown Long Grain Rice

Increasingly popular, high protein legume often used as alternative to meat. Convenient 20-25 min. cook time, great addition to soup, salad and pasta.

Calrose Rice

This medium-grain rice is soft and sticky when cooked, making it ideal for use in sushi dishes.

JASMINE

White long grain variety with soft, sticky texture and subtle floral aroma. Staple in Southeast Asian style cooking, used in soups and stir fried, grilled and braised dishes.

LONG GRAIN RICE

Ancient grain and #1 directly-consumed grain in the world. Reaches across a variety of different cuisines, added as a side dish or eaten as a main dish served with beans.

PARBOILED RICE

Steam-treated at the processing stage, for more nutrient-rich, less sticky, and more separate cooked rice. Great versatility and stability in buffet lines, ideal for restaurants & caterers.

PEARL RICE

Short grain, plump pearl-like kernels with high starch content. Used to make rice pudding, Puerto Rican rice and chicken (arroz con pollo), and Italian risottos.

CALROSE RICE

This medium grain rice is soft and sticky when cooked, making it ideal for use in sushi dishes. Even better? It is less expensive than japonica, the polished white short-grain Japanese rice traditionally used in sushi. Calrose also has a good ability to hold flavor, so it perfectly complements sushi and other recipes served with flavorful sauces. Calrose rice is U.S.-grown in California.

  • Soft, sticky texture great for sushi
  • Less expensive than traditional sushi rice
  • Holds flavor well
  • Grown in the U.S.
