Trinidad Benham has been committed to protecting the environment long before it was the popular thing to do. Even dry edible beans, our legacy product, happen to be uniquely sustainable. Our corporate sustainability efforts have focused on packaging reduction with more efficient packaging design, energy reduction with the installation of high-efficiency lighting; and extensive recycling efforts.

WHERE ENVIRONMENT MEANS MORE

We are committed to providing safe, quality products in a manner that ensures a safe and healthy workplace for our employees and minimizes our potential impact on the environment. We operate in compliance with relevant environmental legislation and strive to use pollution prevention and environmental best practices.

BENEFIT OF THE BEAN

Dry edible beans and other pulses play an important role in sustainability in many ways. Pulses serve the world as a protein source with a low footprint, in both carbon and water. They also transfer nitrogen from the atmosphere to the soil and can be grown practically anywhere.

COMMITTED TO PROTECTING THE FUTURE

We engaged sustainability experts and consulting firms to make these improvements to our overall sustainability performance, and we continue to look for ways to reduce our carbon footprint.

  • Use of recycled materials in building construction
  • Reflective roof coatings assist with temperature control
  • New T5 lighting to reduce electricity usage
  • Use of skylights, white walls & ceilings for increased light
  • Radiant flooring
  • Use of repurposed steel in processing equipment
  • Transitioning forklift fleet to electric from propane

SUSTAINABLE FORESTRY INITIATIVE

Our shipping cases are certified with the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), a fully independent, charitable organization dedicated to promoting sustainable forest management. SFI labels are recognized globally and provide a visual cue to help customers identify responsibly managed forest products.
