Pinto beans are medium sized, oval shaped beans that are mottled with beige and brown colors. Pintos are used most often for refried beans, Tex-Mex and Mexican dishes. Pinto bean production is predominate in North Dakota and Minnesota, however, other states like Colorado, Idaho, Nebraska and Michigan are also successful at raising this variety.
